Application

Directions for use

Foliar Spray

Mix 8–12 fl oz per 100 gallons (70–93 mL/100 L) or 8–12 fl oz per acre with sufficient water for even coverage. Spray to full coverage, including leaf undersides, while minimizing runoff. Ensure airflow and droplet size allow foliage to dry within 2 hours. Begin applications when pests first appear; repeat every 5–7 days as needed. Avoid applying above 90°F, during intense light, or high humidity.

Cutting Dips

Mix ½ teaspoon (0.08 fl oz / 2.4 mL) per gallon of water. Dip unrooted cuttings or above-ground portions for 10–30 seconds. Test rooted cuttings prior to full use. Prepare fresh daily and wear chemical-resistant gloves during handling.

Shake well before use. Dilute before application and use within 24 hours of mixing. No adjuvant required. Compatible with most pesticides and fertilizers — perform a jar test prior to tank mixing and avoid products that advise against oils. Test on a small number of plants prior to widespread use; discontinue if phytotoxicity occurs.

Frankliniella occidentalis on sweet pepper (Capsicum annuum) — a 5-day controlled laboratory bioassay, completely randomized design, 5 replicates per treatment, 20 adult thrips per arena.

5-day cumulative thrips mortality by treatment. The competitive product is an established peppermint-clove oil-based botanical insecticide applied at the same 0.50 mL/500 mL rate. FortaShield Pro applied at the low label rate matched the efficacy of the competitive product's high rate. Hazard ratios estimated via Cox proportional hazards model with robust standard errors clustered by replicate (significance at α = 0.05); FG-1 High (HR = 1.23, p = 0.088) did not reach statistical significance vs. control in this trial. Conducted February 2026 at 72°F / 35% RH, Texas A&M AgriLife Research & Extension Center, Dallas, TX. Results reflect laboratory bioassay conditions — field performance may vary.
